演讲人简介: Keith Thor Carlson is a Professor of History at the University of Saskatchewan where he holds the Research Chair in Indigenous and Community-Engaged History.  Before taking his position at the UofS in 2001 he served for a decade as staff historian and research coordinator for the Stó:lō Nation (representing 18 Fraser River Frist Nations) in British Columbia.

His scholarship is designed and executed in partnership with communities and aspires to answer questions that are of relevance to those communities. His research focuses primarily on the history of the Coast Salish of British Columbia but he also has relationships with Aboriginal communities in Saskatchewan and has in the past worked in the Philippines with Hukbalahap veterans from the war against Japan.

Carlson has recently launched an initiative called the Community-engaged History Collaboratorium . The Collaboratorium provides training, workspace, and academic and administrative oversight of highly qualified undergraduates who work as paid interns on community-sponsored research projects. This summer (2016), in its second year, the Collaboratorium provided paid summer internships to 15 students.

Throughout his career Carlson has authored five books including the multi-award winning the Power of Place, The Problem of Time: Aboriginal Identity and Historical Consciousness in the Cauldron of Colonialism  (2010).
